My name is Jacqueline, and for this 2007-2008 school year, I'm a first-year student at MHC. I'm from New Bern, North Carolina which is near the coast, and I lived in Raleigh at Saint Mary's School for the last two years of high school. I'm interested in politics and maybe psychology and French as majors.

[edit] Lab 1, About Me

My favorite restaurant in my hometown of New Bern is probably the Harvey Mansion. Not because I go there for dinner all the time, but because I made great friends with the chef and his wife while working last summer, and she and I would walk to the restaurant during lunch time to eat. Great food and great company.

New Bern is a small town in Eastern North Carolina that served as the capital for a short while, and was home to Governor Tryon around 1770. Now, many of the historic buildings still remain in downtown, but the surrounding area is also growing very rapidly.

Saint Mary's in Raleigh has survived since 1842 and played a small role in civil war history.

My best friend's name is ALLIIIII!!!

[edit] Lab 2, Objects and Transforms (My First Image!)

Using simple shapes, this is the first image I've made. Different colored spheres and cubes, and 3 white lights. Image:final_lab_image_Feb12.png

[edit] Lab 3, Custom Objects

Using custom objects, I came up with this scene of Christmas morning. The tree is made up of 4 different cones, the star is a meshed prism object, the base of the tree is a simple cube. The tree skirt is a difference object with a smaller sphere taken out of the center, and the presents are meshed prism objects as well. There are two lights added to the scene and the background was changed to white. Image:christmasmorning.png

[edit] Lab 4, Modeling with Realistic Materials

The object of this lab was to create a realistic-ish scene. I chose to do a computer sitting on a table. The two new materials we had to create are shown in the monitor and in the silver lining around the monitor, the mouse, and the speaker (hanging down from the monitor). The appropriate setting I chose is just a room made from a white floor and three white walls. Also on the desk is a clear glass cup, and the mouse. Image:finished_computer_in_room.png

[edit] Lab 5, Suprise!

The object of this lab is to create a scene where not everything in the scene is revealed in one camera shot. For this lab, I created just a very simple room with a green cube in the middle. The first image is of the room without any lights added, and the second is a of the cube looking from the top down, without any light added. Though when you look at the cube, you see that its not a plain cube, but a box with objects inside. There is a lamp, a teapot, a bunny, and three toy arrows inside the box. The only light inside the box is that coming from the lamp. Then in the third and fourth images, you see the same room and the box, this time with the lights in the room turned on.

[edit] Lab 6, Replication

This lab was all about replication. So, for my scene, I chose to make a basement room set up for a beer pong tournament. I made the table first, with a 6 cup pyramid, and a water cup and a ping pong ball on each side of the table. (and there's actually water in the water cups!) There are 5 tables across and 5 tables down, so 25 in all. I placed the first 5 tables myself, and then used multiAdd to make the other 4 rows. The walls and floor and low ceiling are made of planes.

[edit] Lab 7, Part 1 Bezier Curves

The first part of this lab was about using Bezier curves. FOR THE TOP THREE OBJECTS I defined 4 control points ( (0 0) (10 30) (20 20) (40 0) ) and made a Lathe object on the middle, another Lathe object using two curves (the original, and the reverse of the original ( (40 0) (20 -20) (10 -30) (0 0) ) at the right, and a prism object using the same 2 curves at the left. FOR THE BOTTOM THREE OBJECTS, I defined 8 different control points, 2 different curves, (curve 1 (.150 .445) (.204 .536) (.766 .222) (.702 .182) curve 2 (.702 .182) (.638 .141) (.193 .0532) (.145 .143) ) and made a prism object on the bottom left, a lathe object in the middle using only the top curve, and a lathe object using both curves on the right.

This image is an example of something (the ears) that would have been hard to create before using Bezier curves. Image:jacquelinelawrenceelephantears.png

[edit] Lab 7, Part 2 Animation

For the animation part of this lab, I decided to make a movie of a car driving down a road. There are two planes (the green ground and the blue sky) in the scene, and the 3 road sections are made from flattened cubes. The car is borrowed from Carol Stafford's shared model "carolsCar". The yellow lines in the middle of the road are cubes from 3 different multiAdds. [edit] Final Project Progress, Basketball Stadium

This is the work in progress. A very high view of the basic layout of the court, without any detail.

Basic view of the court from the side, without detail and without lights added Image:JacquelineLawrenceSideImageWithGround.png

This picture shows much more progress. Scene almost ready to start camera animation. The markings on the court have been fixed to get rid of shadow. Light has been added at the top and from behind the bleachers. Reflection on the bleachers turned down a bit. Things added: lights, team benches, basketball hoops, bleachers made further apart in X direction. Worked lots on materials. Defined for the netting on basket, glass on backboard, bench color, bleacher color, markings for floor. Was thinking of doing a blue floor but it looked weird when I tried. Looked too much like glass/ice rink so I decided to leave the floor color yellowish and change markings to blue. Also included is a picture of the bench while in progress. (antiAlias not on)

This is a bit of a problem....the bleachers don't look right up close. But here is a closer-up of the goal. Also the bleachers are suspended in midair.

Animation videos on the way! having trouble uploading...

Another photo looking down the court with some more changes (note walls added and floor changed to not reflect so much light. bleachers ARE finished...the original "ice" look gone but still they're very shiny and I think they're cool)
